Unforgettable Cliffs Of Moher Tour In 2019

Cliffs Of Moher Tour

Cliffs of Moher are located on the west coast of County Clare. They stretch for 8 km and reach a height of 214 m in the highest place.

Their name comes from the ruins of the fort “Mothar”, which was destroyed during the Napoleonic wars.

Cliffs of Moher are Special Protection Area. Gulls, guys and other sea birds have their nests here. With a bit of luck, you can see puffins from the edge of the cliff, but only from April to the end of July.

From the cliffs, in good weather, you can see the Aran Islands, Galway Bay, Twelve Pins, Maum Turk in Connemara or the Loop Head peninsula.

Cliffs Of Moher Tour – How To Prepare For A Trip

Bottle of drinking water, comfortable shoes, binoculars, something to eat, there is often a picnic opportunity with such views!

You can buy food and drink in the center at the entrance, but you have to remember that there will be less time for sightseeing.

Clothes. We had a beautiful sun, but we advise you to take raincoats, glasses, and scarves.

Flocks of small flies or something like that rise in the air, so it’s good to have glasses and a handkerchief to cover your face. Shoes with flat heels.

The cliffs are stunningly beautiful, but also seductively dangerous. We advise you not to leave the safe trails, and especially to walk on the edges.

The land is sliding down and there have been many accidents caused by the carelessness of visitors.

Dark fog, a sound as if even water hits the rocks from afar, a barely visible tower in the background

– this is the first thing that greeted us after arriving at the Cliffs of Moher, one of the greatest natural wonders found in Ireland, and we will not overdo it by writing in Europe!

The Cliffs of Moher located over the Atlantic Ocean (we can also come across the name Cliffs of Moher or even the Moher Cliffs) is a cliff stretching for several kilometers made of limestone and sandstone.

Its height is over 120 meters above the water level, although at the highest point it is said to be even 214 meters.

Before arriving, we knew more or less what to expect, before we were able to visit Cape Roca and the Minack Theater built in the rock above a cliff in England.

The fog hovering over the whole gave this place unexpected magic, and for a moment we could not tear ourselves away from this view.

Despite the creation of a great atmosphere, the fog itself initially released some tension in us, after all, the main purpose of visiting the Cliffs was to see them in all majesty.

Fortunately, after about 20 minutes, the fog began to slowly disappear and reveal huge rock layers.

After the fog had disappeared, one of the first views seen was the huge Branaunmore rock sticking out of the water.

Although hard to believe, it is inhabited by thousands of sea birds. We did not succeed because of the lack of time, but there are excursions by boats floating in its vicinity and you can then see this microclimate in all its glory.

Cliffs Of Moher Tour – The cliff itself is divided into a tourist part, which is fenced and safe for everyone, and an open part. Let us remember that every year people die here – the open part of the cliff is very dangerous.

For this reason, even part of the route on the left has been fenced off with special concrete slabs, but they can easily be walked around and approached.

Remember to put on good shoes and wear comfortable pants. We visited the cliff in February, and despite the lack of rain, some places were very slippery – it’s easy to imagine slipping and sliding into the abyss.

We wouldn’t want to scare anyone, but compared to Cape da Roca, the route along the Mohairy Cliffs is definitely more difficult.

However, we must honestly admit, the view is amazing and it’s hard to resist to get as close as possible.

The more that the parts of the cliff differ from each other, the part is typically rocky, the part is covered with grass, under another there is a pebble beach-going both left and right – the views are completely different.

The highest point on the cliff is the O’Brien tower, which you can enter for a small fee and look at it from above. A normal admission ticket costs 2.00 Euro, a concession ticket – 1.00 Euro.

The tower itself is an interesting attraction, it was built in 1835 by the local landowner Cornellius O’Brien especially for hundreds of tourists visiting this place.

I must admit that tourism in Ireland has long been a priority.

The tower is one of the reasons why we will definitely return here in the warmer month, apparently, the view from it stretches, far, beyond the Galway Bay, and you can see the Aran Islands.

Cliffs Of Moher Tour – Another attraction of this place is exhibition rooms and cafes built. in the rock. They are considered to be one of the most natural, “green” buildings in Ireland.

Let’s not fool ourselves, having 20 meters from them such views, it’s a shame to spend more time in them than the absolute minimum.

An interesting fact is that Klif is often visited by … Harry Potter fans. Apparently, he appeared in part Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Cliffs of Moher Tour – how to get there

We reached the cliffs by car rental. We were traveling from Galway, but on a longer route, because we were visiting Ireland. Coverage of the road in the Wild Atlantic Way entry – a trip to the west coast of Ireland.

We will say that we do not regret a single subway traveled because what we saw was worth both kilometers and time and money.

Another interesting option is buying a full-day coach trip with Paddywagon.
